New Appliances

About two weeks ago Joe and I were making dinner and we couldn't figure out why the oven wasn't preheated after 20 minutes or so. I went into the kitchen and low and behold the oven was still cold. At least our stove top still worked so we weren't completely without means to cook! So last weekend we went shopping for new appliances. We also knew that our fridge was very old and had been having problems so we decided to replace the fridge as well. Knowing that we had a limited space to work with, we took all the measurements for the fridge space and then headed out to shop. (I had no idea it was going to take as long as it did!)

We started at the Sears Outlet where they sell scratched and dented appliances at very low costs, but we couldn't find what we wanted that would fit in the space that we had. So we headed to the regular Sears store. After Sears, we knew we wanted a GE Profile slide in stove and a GE trio fridge with a drawer for a freezer at the bottom. We opted not to get the one with water/ice in the door because those were all too big for the space that we had. We wanted to get the best price possible so we went to Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's, and finally to Bernie's. We ended up purchasing the appliances from Bernie's because they were able to give us 10% off the lowest price we found.

Our appliances were delivered on Thursday morning, and that's when our problems began. Turns out that our wall next to the fridge is not square. The fridge would slide back and then get stuck between the wall and the cabinet. So my resourceful husband ripped out the cabinet between the stove and the fridge so it would fit. Then this weekend Joe's dad had to come and help Joe re-build our cabinet and modify the existing cabinet above in order to fit the monster beast of a fridge! Although it was a HUGE process to get our new appliances, we now have a beautiful kitchen with new appliances. Here are some during and after pictures. (Sorry I don't have a picture of our kitchen before we got the new appliances.)
