My September bulletin board welcoming my new first graders!
Most people who aren't in education have no idea how much time it takes to turn an empty room into a functioning classroom. Since I returned from the West Coast this summer, my time has mainly been devoted to getting my classroom into shape. I love the way I have it set up much better than last year, although I had to get used to it at first. Here are some pictures of my hard work! As in any classroom, it is a work in progress and will continue to evolve over the course of the year. My new students are very cute, and we have been in school for 14 days now and I love every single one of them. They are so fun!
At the beginning of every year there is a mourning period for the teachers and the students. For teachers, you miss your old students and remember how they knew all the routines and the ins and outs of your classroom. You look out at the new bunch and wish they would know everything right away, without having to explain every little thing! For the students, they miss their old teacher and the relationship they formed with their old teacher. They want to visit their old teacher and tell them all about their summer.
After about two weeks, the yearning for the past becomes the past as well, and the students and teachers begin their new journey for the year. You start to bond with your new students and begin to see all of their unique qualities that make them who they are as individuals. You find out where they are and where you want to take them in their learning process. It truly a wonderful experience! Here are some pictures of our classroom so far!
